Tennessee will ban transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports.  Governor Bill Lee signed the bill into law on Friday.  It applies specifically to college sports and takes effect July 1st.

Metro police are investigating after a man was found shot to death in a parking lot early yesterday morning.  Authorities responded to an apartment complex on Spring Ranch Drive just after 3:00 a.m. to reports of gunshots. Officers say they are still working to identify the victim.  Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Metro police.

Protestors are continuing to rally against the possible overturning of Roe v. Wade.  Dozens of students from Franklin High School gathered outside the downtown Nashville courthouse Saturday afternoon.  So-called ‘trigger laws’ exist in Tennessee and other states that would ban abortions if the landmark ruling is overturned.  A leaked draft of a Supreme Court majority opinion reversing the decision has led to protests around the country since last week..

Family and fans are mourning the loss of actor and country music singer, Mickey Gilley.  The ‘Urban Cowboy’ star passed away at his home in Branson, Missouri Saturday at the age of 86.  He was known for songs such as ‘Stand By Me’ and ‘Room Full of Roses’, as well as for appearances on television shows including ‘The Dukes of Hazzard’ and ‘Fantasy Island’.  Gilley is one of only seven artists to ever receive the Academy of Country Music’s Triple Crown Award.

Vice President Kamala Harris delivered her speech on the TSU campus Saturday.  She lauded the important role played by Historically Black Colleges and Universities and said as a graduate of an HBCU that there is no limit to your capacity for greatness. There is no obstacle you cannot overcome.
