Robertson County and the rest of the Mid-State is bracing for the possibility of severe weather today.  The National Weather Service in Nashville says the main concern is the winds, including very strong winds even before storms arrive.  Forecasters say that could be followed by damaging winds and isolated tornadoes as storms move through.  The storms could move through between 4 o’clock this afternoon and 1 o’clock tomorrow morning.

A bill that would keep books ruled “obscene and harmful” out of public school libraries is advancing.  The Tennessee House approved the legislation Monday night, while the Senate passed the companion bill out of the Education Committee yesterday.  Supporters say the legislation protects children, keeping them away from age-inappropriate material.  The legislation was introduced after McMinn County Schools banned the Holocaust graphic novel “Maus” [[ Mouse ]] over obscene language, nude illustration, and violence.

A total of 18 Robertson County candidates running for seven different offices spoke last week at the County Candidate Forum in White House. The event, which featured candidates from both Robertson and Sumner Counties, was sponsored by the White House Area Chamber of Commerce and held at the Billy S. Hobbs Municipal Center in White House.  The primaries for Robertson County offices will take place on May 3. Early voting begins on April 13th.

Robertson County Schools is hosting an educational career fair on April 8 from Noon to 4:00. Principals and supervisors will be available for questions and interviews.  While it is encouraged to attend the career fair to have a broader sense of areas you may be suited to serve in, there is still possible to apply online as well.

Robertson County Schools Supervisor of Secondary Education, Dr. Bob Pruitt has been endorsed for school superintendency by the Tennessee School Boards Association.  In December, Pruitt completed 98 hours of intensive instruction at the Superintendent’s Academy.  Administrated by the School Board Association, The Academy provides training and orientation for educators seeking to add to their portfolio of leadership credentials.

The Robertson County Players’ production of 12 Angry Jurors will continue its run at 7 p.m. this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at Springfield Middle School’s Historic Auditorium.  The story was initially broadcast as a television play in 1954 under the title 12 Angry Men and was later adapted for the stage.  For more information about the production, go to robertsoncountyplayers.org.

Pre-k students can now apply for the 2022-2023 school year.  Register your child online at rcstn.net and click on the button in the blue ribbon.  If you want to register in person you can do so at Bransford Elementary Thursday, April 14th, or Wednesday, April 20th from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on both days.
