Evelyn Guill is dead. Guill dedicated much of her life to documenting and preserving the history of the city of White House. Through her work as a historian, she is best known for playing a vital role in the creation of the White House Inn Museum. Terry Palmer, a relative of Guill’s who also helped her with the museum, says her interest and love for history developed at a young age from hearing stories of the area, told by family members passed down through generations. Evelyn Guill was 94.
The General Assembly is considering an option to deal with a shortage as the pool of new teachers continues to shrink across the state. A new bill would allow the Department of Education to issue permits on a temporary basis for people without a teacher’s certification to teach classes. Data from the state board of education shows about an 18-percent decline from 2015 to 2020 in prospective teachers completing their training. If passed, the measure would allow the issuance of temporary teaching permits for next year and subsequent years.
The Springfield Board of Mayor and Aldermen and the Robertson County School Board both approved a service agreement with Medical Analysis-GVH to provide an Employee Health and Wellness Clinic for all city and county employees. The agreement serves as a three-way partnership between the Robertson County School System, the City of Springfield, and the Robertson County government to provide an employee health clinic. The resolution will go before the County Commission meeting on Feb. 28..
A new study shows Tennessee is one of the most tax-friendly states in the nation. An analysis by MoneyGeek ranks every state, looking at income tax, property taxes, state and local taxes as well as other factors. The study ranks Tennessee as the fifth most tax-friendly state. Wyoming ranks number one, while Illinois is the least tax-friendly.
