The Department of Defense is reporting the death of an Airman from Middle Tennessee. The DOD announced yesterday that 27-year-old Staff Sergeant Dennis F. Melton was killed in a non-combat-related situation on February 18th. Melton died at the Nigerien Air Base 101 after being deployed with the 768th Expeditionary Air Base Squadron. Melton was from Waverly.
Tennessee’s gas prices are rising. Triple-A says the average cost of a gallon of gas in Tennessee is up to three-dollars-and-29 cents. The price increased by three cents just last week. The most expensive markets in the state include Memphis at three-34 a gallon, Nashville at three-33, and Chattanooga at three-32.
The rain in Robertson County and the rest of the Mid-State likely won’t be over after today. The National Weather Service in Nashville says even more rain is expected overnight tomorrow, into Thursday and Friday. Up to three inches are expected in some areas through Friday morning.
The Springfield Board of Mayor and Aldermen and the Robertson County School Board both approved a service agreement with Medical Analysis-GVH to provide an Employee Health and Wellness Clinic for all city and county employees. The agreement serves as a three-way partnership between the Robertson County School System, the City of Springfield, and the Robertson County government to provide an employee health clinic. The resolution will go before the County Commission meeting on Feb. 28..
A bill to honor an East Tennessee soldier killed in Afghanistan is making its way through the state legislature. Army Staff Sergeant Ryan Knauss [[ Kuh-nows ]] was killed outside the Kabul Airport while helping to evacuate the country last August. The bill would rename a section of Tazewell Pike in Knox County after Sergeant Knauss. The bill’s sponsor, Republican State Senator Becky Duncan expects it to be unanimously approved.
