A Robertson County judge is ruling that James Conn will face a grand jury in the killing of a Robertson County sheriff’s deputy. The judge ruled that Conn will stay in jail without bond after finding probable cause to move on to a grand jury hearing in preliminary proceedings yesterday. Conn was arrested on murder and arson charges after investigators found Deputy Savanna Puckett’s body in a burning Springfield home on January 23rd. Conn has been described by authorities as an acquaintance of Puckett.
Tennesseans are near the bottom when it comes to life expectancy in the U.S. A report released yesterday by the National Center for Health Statistics ranks Tennessee 47th overall, with an average life expectancy of just over 75-and-a-half years. For men, it’s nearly 73 years, while it’s 78-and-a-half years for women. Hawaii has the highest life expectancy at nearly 81 years, while Mississippi has the lowest at less than 74-and-a-half years.
McMinn County Schools won’t rescind its ban on the graphic novel “Maus” [[ Mouse ]]. Some people demanded the book about the experiences of author Art Spiegelman’s parents during the Holocaust be reinstated during a meeting last night. The McMinn County School board banned the book from its eighth-grade curriculum last month. It cited graphic language and nudity for its decision.
Country music star Mickey Guyton will sing the national anthem before the start of Super Bowl 56 in Los Angeles on Sunday. Earlier this month, Guyton praised God on social media saying she was “shook” and “grateful” for the opportunity. Guyton is a four-time Grammy-nominated artist. The Cincinnati Bengals will play the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium.
A Wilson County elementary school is damaged after a car struck the building yesterday afternoon. The school district says a driver hit Southside Elementary School near a front entrance. No one was hurt in the incident. The district says no delays or cancellations are expected from the accident.
