Because of a growing waiting list and a lack of room to hold additional aircraft, the Springfield-Robertson County Airport has been forced to get creative with a way to fund a new hangar project. At last month’s meeting of Springfield’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen, Airport Manager Jamie Jones presented an opportunity for a new T-hanger expansion project, paid for through a land lease and private investors. Jones says the airport is at full capacity with 82 aircraft. No ramp or building space is available for lease and they are currently forced to turn away potential tenants.
Tennessee is prepared for a bout of winter weather. Some snow accumulation followed by bitter cold is expected across most of the state today and tomorrow. TDOT says it pretreated many major roads, bridges, and overpasses yesterday. TDOT officials say the department has nearly 200-thousand tons of salt and over one-and-a-half-million gallons of salt brine to help keep streets safe.
Clarksville is preparing for snow. All Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools are closed today. Austin Peay State University is also close. Fort Campbell is closed for non-essential services. Outpatient services are also shut down at Fort Campbell’s hospital.
The Natchez Trace Parkway is being closed due to weather. It’s expected to be closed mid-morning from Nashville to Tupelo, Mississippi. It won’t be passable from Collinwood to Highway 64, and from Highway 46 to the northern terminus in Nashville.
The number of school-age children testing positive for COVID-19 continues to grow. The Tennessee Department of Education reports over eleven-thousand children tested positive statewide in the last two weeks. Shelby County has the most pediatric cases with nearly 39-hundred. Davidson County has over eleven-hundred kids’ cases. Hamilton and Rutherford counties each have over 500 cases with Williamson County nearing that mark.
