Billy Wilson, a former Greenbrier mayor and fire chief for several years is dead. Wilson’s career as a firefighter began at the age of 18 when he joined the Whites Creek Fire Department. He eventually moved to Greenbrier and joined the Greenbrier Fire Department in 1994. Eight years later, Wilson was promoted to fire chief in 2002. His family says Wilson had been battling with several health issues in recent years, culminating with a lung cancer diagnosis just weeks ago. Billy Wilson was 64.
Governor Bill Lee is providing some relief to Tennesseans dealing with tornado damage in northwest and Middle Tennessee. Governor Lee issued an executive order yesterday to provide operational flexibilities for several counties hit by severe weather over the weekend. At least four Tennesseans were killed during the storms. A father and son were killed at a resort in Tiptonville and at least one person was killed in Obion and Shelby counties.
There are nearly one thousand new coronavirus cases in Tennessee. The Tennessee Department of Health reported the new cases yesterday, bringing the total since the outbreak began to over one-million-339-thousand. Nearly 20 additional COVID-19-related deaths were also reported, with the total number standing at over 17-thousand-700. There are more than one thousand COVID-19 hospitalizations in Tennessee.
Tennesseans are running out of time to ship packages that need to be delivered by Christmas. Memphis-based FedEx says Christmas packages being sent by FedEx Ground or FedEx home delivery need to be shipped by tomorrow. Packages going via two-day delivery must be sent by December 22nd. For overnight services, the deadline is December 23rd and the FedEx Same Day shipping deadline is December 24th.
Multiple people are being treated for injuries following a wrong-way crash on Monday night in Clarksville. One person was life-flighted to a Nashville hospital in critical but stable condition. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
