Robertson County residents will have the opportunity to receive free tax assistance again this year through the United Way’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.  The program which recruits and trains volunteers to help prepare taxes for people in the community who make less than $66,000 a year per household will be housed at the school board’s central office one or two days a week for 11 weeks straight, starting Feb. 1 and up to April 15th. IRS says the national average cost to hire a paid tax-preparer is $273. The VITA program is free.

A three-year-old from Gallatin who was the subject of an AMBER Alert is back home.  Noah Clare was returned home to Gallatin from California on Friday night.  He was reported missing on November 5th after his father Jacob Clare failed to bring him to Gallatin.  Jacob Clare is in jail in southern California charged with kidnapping after he was found with Noah and Noah’s 16-year-old cousin last week.

Some military families in Tennessee are getting help with Thanksgiving dinner.  Over 15-hundred turkeys were given out to active-duty military personnel, veterans, and their families in Clarksville on Saturday.  It was part of the fourth annual Turkeys for Troops giveaway.  Each family received one free frozen turkey and a two-liter bottle of soda.

Members of the Tennessee National Guard are stocking up thanks to donated care packages from country star Miranda Lambert.  On Sunday, Guard members at the Clarksville Armory received packages from Fort Care and Lambert’s Muttnation non-profit organizations.  Nashville-based Fort Care provides military families with grocery items, and Muttnation helps homeless pets.  Fort Care and Muttnation provided the soldiers with hygiene boxes and dog food for their canine companions.
