Police are investigating a shooting incident inside a convenience store in Springfield Monday afternoon. Two men were allegedly involved in an altercation inside Sam’s Market on Central Ave just before 1 pm. Police say a gun was discharged during the incident but no one was hit. The investigation continues.
Tennessee is the target of a civil rights investigation. The U.S. Department of Education announced yesterday Tennessee is one of five states being looked at for potential discriminatory policies for banning mask mandates in schools. The probe will look at whether statewide bans on universal indoor masking discriminate against students with disabilities who may be at heightened risk for severe illness from COVID-19. Iowa, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Utah are also being investigated.
Middle Tennessee is under a flash flood watch. The remnants of Hurricane Ida could drop several inches of rain on the Mid-State by tomorrow morning. The area south of I-40 could get hit the hardest. Forecasters say drivers shouldn’t pass through flooded areas.
Robertson County residents who plan on going to Bonnaroo should be advised that festival officials reducing the camping capacity for the annual Manchester event. The capacity is being reduced in anticipation that some areas of the campground will be flooded. Ticket holders can request a full refund until 8 o’clock tonight. The festival starts on Thursday and runs through Sunday.
More than 46 volunteers from the Peacekeeper Battalion, a branch of the 716th Military Police Battalion at Fort Campbell, arrived in Waverly this weekend to assist residents in cleaning up the damages left by the recent flooding that destroyed several homes. Local Army officials say the Peacekeepers used the opportunity to give back to the community in many ways. For example, they helped with clearing river beds, removing soaked drywalls, and aiding residents in sorting through their belongings.
