Robertson County Schoolkids are back in class for a half day today and will participate in their first full day tomorrow. They will not be required to wear masks, show proof of COVID-19 vaccination, or have their temperature taken. RCS will work with local health departments and academic organizations like the TSSAA to adhere to their guidelines. This year, contact tracing will be administered by the Robertson County Health Department, not the school district. Governor Lee has demanded that there be no options for virtual or hybrid learning, but if a student misses school due to contact tracing and feels well enough to work, Microsoft Teams will be available to them. Over the last two weeks, there have been 154 new cases of COVID-19 in Robertson County, which is a 97 percent increase over the previous two weeks.
Meanwhile, The Tennessee Department of Health says the number of children testing positive for the coronavirus has quadrupled in the last several weeks. Data posted for the week of July 12th showed over 860 school-age kids ages five-to-18 years-old tested positive over the two-week period prior to July 12th. Three weeks later, that number is over four-thousand positive cases.
