Residents in White House will be doling out a little more for City property taxes when the rate increases by more than 24 percent for the 2021-22 fiscal year. The current property tax rate is $1.036, per $100 of assessed property value. City leaders voted last week on second reading to raise that rate to $1.286, effective July 1. City Administrator Gerald Herman, the increased tax rate is for the City to complete some huge projects that have been planned for a while.
A home on Tyler Court in Cottontown is still standing after a fire broke out in the basement Wednesday morning. The upper part of the home did sustain smoke damage but was otherwise intact. Fire officials say the likely cause of the fire was an electrical malfunction, though no official cause has been released.
General Motors is hiring at its manufacturing facility in Spring Hill. About 100 employees are needed there. Pay for the hourly temporary positions starts at 16-dollars-and-67 cents an hour with health care and holiday options available after 90 days. Drug testing and background checks are required.
Robertson County Drivers taking o the open road on the 4th of July wil have plenty of company. Triple-A estimates almost a million Tennessee residents will travel on the roads between July 1st and 5th. Even though gas prices are nearly a dollar-a-gallon higher this year over last it’s not expected to stop Tennesseans from celebrating with family and friends.
The upcoming 4th of July weekend is another reminder that the blood shortage in Tennessee is critical. Holidays are the prime time for crashes and with a million Tennesseans taking to the roads next week the American Red Cross of Tennessee is putting out a plea for blood donations. Officials also say there is a high demand from hospitals for blood as many patients put off care during the pandemic and are now dealing with more advanced disease.
