Free Movie Fridays — a monthly event from June through September — will kick off June 18 at the Robertson County Fairgrounds. The event, presented by  the City of Springfield’s Parks and Recreation Department and the Springfield Walmart, will set up this year’s showings under the Century Stage, as part of the Robertson County Fair Association Family Fun Night series.  Parks and Recreation director Terry Martin say this Friday night’s movie, “The Croods 2: A New Age” is slated to begin around 7:30.

The Southern Baptists Convention will investigate allegations of sexual abuse and cover up.  On the final day of the SBC’s annual meeting at the Music City Center yesterday, delegates voted to create a task force to lead an investigation.  The task force will be appointed by newly elected president Ed Litton.  Leaked letters written by the former president of the SBC’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission allege the Convention’s executive committee mishandled sexual abuse claims and mistreated victims.

 Robertson County package delivery may look different soon. FedEx announced a multi-year partnership with Nuro, a leading self-driving startup, to explore different uses for Autonomous Vehicles.  Nuro’s co-founder Dave Ferguson says this partnership will not displace workers, but instead streamline work by finding new ways to move packages more efficiently.  Back in April, Nuro began testing in Houston by delivering groceries and pizza with Kroger, Dominos and others.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is reporting there’s evidence of alligators and cougars expanding their territories into the state.  The report is in the TWRA Tennessee Hunting and Trapping Guide for the 2020-2021 season.  The TWRA says species expanding their ranges in the state are protected and can’t be killed until a hunting season is established.  The guide lists alligators, cougars, hawks, owls, songbirds, endangered species and any other species for which a season hasn’t been set as protected..
