The Springfield City Council is trying to make it easier to park downtown.  Both local and out-of-town customers complain about not being able to find parking spaces to explore and shop because the spaces are being taken up by business owners’ vehicles. Parking spaces with 15 minute time limits are being proposed for the front of businesses for pickups and drop-offs. It’s thought the business owners would be more likely to park behind their shops, which would free up the other parking spaces for customers.

Police are investigating the murder of a Nashville man in Springfield Saturday. The victim, who police have identified as 24-year-old Patrick Childress found inside a residence 0n 15th Ave West just before 1:00 Saturday morning. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact Springfield Police.

Governor Bill Lee is ceremoniously signing the permitless carry gun bill.  A celebration was held at gun manufacturer Beretta USA’s facility in Gallatin yesterday.  The bill allows Tennesseans 21 and over and members of the military over 18 to carry open or concealed handguns without a permit.  It also increases penalties for gun-related crimes.

The White House Public Library will be hosting the annual Fandomcon event this Saturday, offering crafts, games, panels, vendors, escape rooms, live animals and more for attendees. This year, the events’ theme is “Animals and Storytelling” and it will be hosted from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. outside.  The Public Library will be enforcing some COVID-19 precautions, including hand sanitizer stations, spraying the craft and game items and social distancing. Tennessee is offering three tax-free holidays this year.  Beginning July 1st and running for the next year, sales of gun safes and other firearm safety equipment will be tax free.  Clothing, school supplies and computers can be bought without taxes on July 30th and August 1st.  And finally on July 30th and running a week through August 5th food at grocery stores, restaurants, food trucks and caterers will also enjoy a tax holiday.
