A Portland man is facing murder charges after authorities discovered his mother’s body along with two dead cats hidden under a pile of clothing inside a Portland home. 44-year-old Brian Atchison has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his mother, 69-year-old Doris Atchison. Brian Atchison was also charged with “abuse of a corpse” and two counts of “aggravated animal cruelty.”

The White House Public Library will be hosting the annual Fandomcon event this Saturday, offering crafts, games, panels, vendors, escape rooms, live animals and more for attendees. This year, the events’ theme is “Animals and Storytelling” and it will be hosted from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. outside.  The Public Library will be enforcing some COVID-19 precautions, including hand sanitizer stations, spraying the craft and game items and social distancing. There are nearly 120 new coronavirus cases in Tennessee.  The Tennessee Department of Health reported the new cases yesterday, bringing the total since the outbreak began to over 863-thousand.  An additional ten COVID-19-related deaths were also reported, with the total number of coronavirus-attributed deaths standing at nearly 12-thousand-460.  There are about 470 people with COVID-19 hospitalized in Tennessee. Since the outbreak began there have been 9,793 cases of COVID-19 in Robertson County. 64 of those are active cases and there have been 132 COVID 19 deaths in Robertson County.

Austin Peay State University’s mask order is over.  Face masks and social distancing requirements at APSU came to an end yesterday.  The school is now operating under a “normal” risk level.  The school says it still strongly encourages everyone to get vaccinated for COVID-19.

There’s a possibility for severe weather in Middle Tennessee today.  The National Weather Service in Nashville says damaging straight-line winds are the primary risk.  However, forecasters say flooding is also possible.  The National Weather Service calls the risk “marginal.”
