A total of 668 seniors in the Robertson County Schools district are set to graduate from their high schools beginning today.  These high schools include Springfield High School, White House Heritage High School, Greenbrier High School, Jo Byrns High School in Cedar Hill and East Robertson High School in Cross Plains.  Each ceremony will have special guests, including county commissioners, county officials and special speakers. The district is making sure to include COVID-19 restrictions, including the graduates being seated 6 feet apart, the ceremony being live-streamed and graduates being limited to 4 to 10 guests.

Be careful out there: The National Weather Service says there have already been 20 tornadoes in the Mid-State so far this year.  That’s more than the annual average for Middle Tennessee.  The average for the area is 17 tornadoes a year.  March through May is historically the height of severe weather season.

If you are unemployed in Robertson County, there are job openings just a short drive away.  UPS is hiring in Nashville.  The shipping giant wants to hire more than 100 package handlers at sorting hubs and centers.  The two facilities are located on Whites Creek Pike, near Briley Parkway, and on Massman Drive, near Appleton Drive.  UPS says the positions are permanent part-time with “competitive” pay and benefits.

Those impacted by the March floods are getting some help.  The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency is opening three Multi-Agency Recovery Centers this weekend.  The centers will be in Davidson, Williamson and Wilson counties.  FEMA, TEMA, the U.S.Small Business Administration and local agencies will have representatives there who will provide information on disaster assistance programs.

The Robertson County Senior Center says if you are doing some spring cleaning and or planning a yard sale, please consider donating items to their annual indoor rummage sale fundraiser. They are on the lookout for pre-loved baby and children’s clothes, toys, books, household items, Holiday decorations, small appliances and accessories but don’t have the manpower to move heavy items. Donations may be dropped off Monday, May 24th – Wednesday, May 26th from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

June 12th will be observed as Women’s Veterans Day in Tennessee.  Governor Bill Lee signed a bill yesterday that will honor female veterans on that day annually.  The legislation received unanimous support in the Tennessee House earlier this year.  Women make up about ten percent of the state’s military veterans.
