A total of 668 seniors in the Robertson County Schools district are set to graduate from their high schools beginning Thursday.  These high schools include Springfield High School, White House Heritage High School, Greenbrier High School, Jo Byrns High School in Cedar Hill and East Robertson High School in Cross Plains.  Each ceremony will have special guests, including county commissioners, county officials and special speakers. The district is making sure to include COVID-19 restrictions, including the graduates being seated 6 feet apart, the ceremony being live-streamed and graduates being limited to 4 to 10 guests.

While the noise will be annoying, the emergence of Brood X cicadas after 17 years underground is good for some animals.  The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency says they’re a food source for some small animals and fish.  Earlier this week, the TWRA posted a picture to social media of a turkey stuffed with cicadas.  Some wildlife experts say the infestation of cicadas this spring and summer could lead to a population boom of turkeys.

If you live in Robertson county and are planning a June wedding, chances are you’ll be saying goodbye to the single life in Nashville.  It is the nation’s top destination for bachelor and bachelorette parties.  The national bachelor/bachelorette planning service The Bach reports Music City has held the title for the last three years.  Nashville is followed by Scottsdale, Arizona; Miami and Las Vegas.  This year’s bachelor and bachelorette party season is expected to be the biggest in history following last year’s cancellations over coronavirus concerns.

The Robertson County Senior Center says if you are doing some spring cleaning and or planning a yard sale, please consider donating items to their annual indoor rummage sale fundraiser. They are on the lookout for pre-loved baby and children’s clothes, toys, books, household items, Holiday decorations, small appliances and accessories but don’t have the manpower to move heavy items. Donations may be dropped off Monday, May 24th – Wednesday, May 26th from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

The Strong Act is now law in Tennessee.  The bill signed by Governor Bill Lee at Berry Field Air National Guard Base will give additional education opportunities to Tennesseans who served in the U.S. Military.  It’s designed to provide members of the national guard funding to get their bachelor’s degree while serving.  The new law is part of a larger education goal to equip 55 percent of Tennesseans with a degree or occupational certificate by 2025.

June 12th will be observed as Women’s Veterans Day in Tennessee.  Governor Bill Lee signed a bill yesterday that will honor female veterans on that day annually.  The legislation received unanimous support in the Tennessee House earlier this year.  Women make up about ten percent of the state’s military veterans.
