We’re a little over week away from Memorial Day and The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 45 in Greenbrier will be hosting their annual drive-through Poppy distribution on National Poppy day, Friday, May 28th. It’s from from 8 am- 1 pm at the Greenbrier American Legion Post, and it’s a chance to learn the history of how the poppy became the symbol of remembrance for veterans. This will be an interactive non-contact drive-through or if the weather is nice, feel free to park and walkthrough.
A traffic reminder: The City of Adams advises motorists of two railroad crossing closures. The South Commerce St and the South Adams St railroad crossings are closed through Wednesday due to CSX maintenance.
The Robertson County Senior Center says if you are doing some spring cleaning and or planning a yard sale, please consider donating items to their annual indoor rummage sale fundraiser. They are on the lookout for pre-loved baby and children’s clothes, toys, books, household items, Holiday decorations, small appliances and accessories but don’t have the manpower to move heavy items. Donations may be dropped off Monday, May 24th – Wednesday, May 26th from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
The Strong Act is now law in Tennessee. The bill signed by Governor Bill Lee at Berry Field Air National Guard Base will give additional education opportunities to Tennesseans who served in the U.S. Military. It’s designed to provide members of the national guard funding to get their bachelor’s degree while serving. The new law is part of a larger education goal to equip 55 percent of Tennesseans with a degree or occupational certificate by 2025.
June 12th will be observed as Women’s Veterans Day in Tennessee. Governor Bill Lee signed a bill yesterday that will honor female veterans on that day annually. The legislation received unanimous support in the Tennessee House earlier this year. Women make up about ten percent of the state’s military veterans.
