Nearly a dozen Tennessee counties are cleaning up after tornadoes touched down.  Tornadoes were reported in Davidson, Robertson, Cheatham, Sumner, Trousdale, Jackson, Smith, Dekalb, White, Bedford and Cumberland counties yesterday.  The National Weather Service says the tornadoes are believed to have been EF-0 with winds between 65-and-85-miles-per hour.

Meanwhile, Officials in Wilson County are assessing damage to Central High School’s athletic fields.  The scoreboard on the baseball field was shredded by strong winds yesterday with trees scattered and fencing ripped down.  There was some minor damage to the softball field but no damage to the school building and no injuries.  The National Weather Service has not determined whether straight line winds or a tornado caused the damage.

The Tennessee State Fair and the Wilson County Fair will be a combined event this year.  It’s set for August 12th through the 21st at the James E. Ward Agriculture Center in Lebanon.  The change to a combined event needs the approval of the state legislature and Governor Bill Lee’s signature.  Approval by the state legislature will allow for improvements to facilities and upgrades to road and traffic infrastructure.

Be careful if you’re headed to Nashville to party. Metro Police will be looking for drivers who celebrate too much on Cinco de Mayo.  A sobriety checkpoint will be held on Highway 70 South in Bellevue tonight.  Police will also be looking for imparied drivers throughout Nashville.  Nearly 40 percent of deadly crashes in Davidson County last year involved impairment.

The CROWN Act passes the State Senate unanimously.  The bill looks to stop discrimination in schools and the workplace against those who wear their natural hair in different styles like braids, twists and dreadlocks.  The bill passed 28 to nothing in the Senate Monday.

The work-related death of a Clarksville man remains under investigation.  A police report reveals Ronnie Thompson was killed last week while working for Valley Interiors at a client’s home in Hendersonville.  A pallet of construction material fell on Thompson when it was being moved.
