A probation officer made a grim discovery while making a “home visit” in Portland on Tuesday.  The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office says two people were found dead inside the home, a 32-year-old adult and a 3-month-old infant. The cause of death is still under investigation. A 3-year-old was also found at the home and was treated at a local hospital. 

Retired Springfield High School math teacher and coach Donald Lloyd Stephens is dead. During his 25-year career at Springfield High School, he became known as the go-to guy when you needed an ear, many telling the family he was one of their favorite teachers. His family says he died from complications of COVID-19.  Donald Stephens was 67.

A former corporal at the Montgomery County Jail is facing two counts of statutory rape.  36-year-old Brett Badgett was indicted this week for an incident in July 2012, about two months before the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office hired him.  Officials say the complaint against Badgett was filed on January 20th, and he was fired from the MCSO on February 9th.  Sheriff John Fuson said Badgett is in custody on a bond of 75-thousand-dollars.   

It would “destroy women’s sports.”  That’s what Governor Bill Lee says about allowing transgender athletes to participate in women’s competitions.  Governor Lee also says it would ruin the chance for girls to earn scholarships.  Lee made the comment yesterday, the same day Tennessee lawmakers advance a bill that would ban transgender girls from playing on middle and high school teams.
