Today is Memorial Day and because of the holiday, Post Offices will be closed and there will be no regular mail delivery. Federal, state and county government offices are also closed. Memorial Day was adopted by the United States in 1868 and is a holiday in which the nation honors its military who have fallen in battle.
Robertson County TV viewers may remember a former TV actor who played Tarzan and a woman who founded a church that helped people lose weight. They are among the victims of a fatal plane crash in Percy Priest Lake. The plane carrying Joe Lara, who starred in the TV series, Tarzan: The Epic Adventures, his wife Gwen Lara, who founded Remnant Fellowship Church in Smyrna, and five church officials went down midday Saturday. The church released a statement yesterday confirming all seven passengers were dead. The National Transportation Safety Board has investigators at the site of the crash to investigate the cause.
The Memorial Day weekend means most people spending time outdoors where hopefully the weather is good. But the National Weather Service reminds that weather can change quickly and it’s important to keep an eye on the sky and know the forecast. Having a way to receive alerts like with a NOAA Weather Radio or a mobile device with wireless emergency alerts enabled are the best ways to stay up-to-date with any change or severe weather.
